Chevrolet Repair: service engine light on diesel, chevy diesel, fuel mixture

Question
Thanks for taking my question!
I have a 94 chevy diesel 6.5 turbo, and the service engine light comes on when stopped and in gear. Never just idling in park. The diagnostic code says it is the map sensor, but I have changed that, actually two of them. There is one on the intake from the turbo, and another one mounted on the firewall that has a vacumn line from something mounted on top of whatever is located at the end of where the turbo intake is.
The truck runs great, so I don't think there is actually a problem that the sensor is trying to tell me about, but I feel that, with the code showing up in the computer, maybe the way the computer is supposed to control stuff like the fuel mixture, or other things, that I need to do something to make it right.
Should I be concerned, of just ignore the light?

Answer
Hi Frank,
I wouldn't just ignore it. It is there for a reason.
Look first in the operators manual, and see what it recommends. I would think that if it isn't blinking, then the problem isn't critical.
I haven't had any experience with the problem you have, so no quick answer. I would find a shop manual, see what systems work together, and test all the parts individually associated with that system.
In the public library, refference section, you can read all the different types of repair manuals, usually including the manufacturers shop manual.
You could just have a hose connection tube plugged. A restricted exhaust system could also cause a false reading.
Good luck,
Van
