Chrysler Repair: Results of pin tests on 94 LHS BCM

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland,
Finally got a chance to check the continuity on the pins. FYI, the numbers for the pins on the 94 LHS BCM are at the bottom of each of the ports where the wires plug into the unit.

The following pins are not showing continuity on the Black Plug:

2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21 & 23

Grey Plug:

1, 2, 4, 16, 19, 20 & 24

White / Bone:

1, 5, 6, 11 & 18

Thanks for your help. Let me know what you think.

Mar

ANSWER: Hi Mar,
A number of the pins don't have wires attached to them so "no continuity" would be expected.
Specifically: Black 2,7,9,13,14,15,17,19,21,23
         Gray 1,16,19
         Bone 1
All the others are attached to various locations around the car which I can describe if you don't have the diagrams. How did you check the continuity by the way? By continuity I mean between each pin of the plug and the far end of the wire on each pin, wherever it goes. But that is a pretty large job.
What about trying to squirt electrical contact cleaner into the 3 sockets, then use a blower/dryer to evaporate it away. Also spray the plug pins and blow. Then see if any of the problems were corrected by doing that. Are there any signs that water may have leaked down on the bcm from the windshield?
Thanks for the ratings and nominations!
Roland

QUESTION: Thanks for the fast response. I don't have the diagrams but if there is a website where I can get them then let me know. Otherwise, could you please tell me what each pin is attached too and I can check them out. I forgot to pick up the contact cleaner today. I will get it tomorrow.  There is no signs of leakage from the windshield. I believe that I checked the continuity as you described it above.

ANSWER: Hi Mar,
By continuity in this case I meant between each wire/pin on the 3 plugs and its other end. I would have to copy the pages from the '94 manual and mail them to you. It is a lot of details to assemble and copy all the pages that are involved.
Rather than go through all that, do try the contact cleaner approach. Then tell me again what is not working and whether the car will start and run. Perhaps we can then focus in on some specific wires rather than going through the effort to check all the wires on those three plugs.

QUESTION: Good evening Roland,
I sprayed the pins on the BCM and the plugs and while they were drying, I disconnected and cleaned two other connections. I also sprayed some cleaner into the key switch. After everything dried and I reassembled all connections, it sort of worked. All the gauges and everything started working again but when I switched the key off and back on nothing was working. Key off and on and some things worked and others didn't. Took the cover off the steering column and cleaned all the connections on the switch. Then I took the radio, heater controller and gauges out and cleaned all connections on those items. I have also pulled every fuse under the hood and in the fuse block and checked for continuity to make sure that they were all working. Still have the pulsing of the blower motor,no gauges and no lights on the transmission selector. Stopped for the night. Appears that all of the pins on the BCM have continuity so at this point could the ignition switch be bad?

Answer
Hi Mar,
It could be the ignition switch. Let me check out the switch wiring and I'll be able to tell you what points to check for voltage in the 'run' and the 'start' positiona.
Tell me again what is the "pulsing of the blower motor" behavior, by no gauges does that include the warning lights or just the actual gauges, and do the tach and the speedo work? I'll also look at the trans selector light issue.
By the way, did the engine start and run or not, and if it did is it now not cranking, or is it cranking but not starting? I'll start working on this in the morning so let me know the answers to my questions.
