Chrysler Repair: 01 Chrysler T&C sounds rough/loud, 4 digit numbers, exhaust shop

Question
I have a 2001 with 160,000 miles on it.  Under load, and by that I mean when pushing on the accelerator, it sounds like one of those old cars with the muffler that is bad.  I can't replicate the sound with the van in neutral, only when going down the road.  Is it truly a muffler problem that I'm looking at or could there be something else?  It doesn't really feel like there is a loss of power, it is just a little embarrassing, according to my wife.  Thanks in advance.

Answer
H Hi Travix,
If there is a malfunction is will probably set a fault code in the memory of the engine computer. You can get the codes by turning the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading is replaced by any 4-digit numbers preceded by a P. If nothing shows up, then try to get a free fault code reading from an Autzone or similar nationwide auto parts store using a plug-in code reader.
If there are no codes, then I would listen from underneath for an exhaust leak or go to an independent exhaust shop and have them look over the system.
