Chrysler Repair: Analog digital cluster swap, engine management computer, digital dash

Question
Hi Roland,

I have some VIN numbers now.

Recipient car: IC3XJ453MG129901 (My car in UK)

Digital dash donor car:IC3XJ5538LG04887 (The final zero might be a letter O. Also last numbers may be 44887-this checks in a VIN decoder site)  I have the digital dash and the BCM from this car. The Transmission computer and the ECU/PCM-the engine management computer-what would you call it, are also available from this car. But do I need them?

Also:IC3XJ4533MG144262, another analog car (I believe to be a '91)has the ECU/PCM available if I need it.

I've downloaded the notes that Jesse Christianson wrote up (with your assistance) for 1990 Electronic cluster swap.

I'm now wondering (with your help) if I can use those instructions word for word with my '91 car.  The digital cluster/BCM would appear to have come from a '90 car.

REgards, Pete

Answer
Hi Pete,
I think the '90 digital cluster is almost identical to the '91, so that the used cluster should work in your '91. I would believe that there is no need to replace the pcm/bcm/tcm just because you are replacing the conventional with a digital cluster. The issue will be doing the wiring per the instructions and the diagrams that you have on hand.
The 91 cluster does have a provision for an anti-lock brake warning lamp while the '90 cluster doesn't, but that will be moot if you don't have ABS.
So give it a shot and see how it goes. Good luck.
Roland
