Chrysler Repair: 97 town and country died on interstate, crystler, autoparts store

Question
Rolland,

I have a 97 crystler town and country, we were driving thru N Carolina on the interstate headed up the mountain when the van died. What can we try to get it restarted? At the moment we are sitting on the side of the road.
Thanks,
Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,
It may well be that one of the two engine rotation sensors has gone flakey. Fortunately, when they cool down they often will recover but then do it again after some more mile of driving, etc. You can check it out via the self-diagnostic tool on-board using the ignition switch: "On-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then either watch the check engine light, which remains 'on' to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of an accurate flash count. OR if that doesn't happen watch the odometer window to see the mileage reading change to show a four-digit number(s) preceded by P. In either case let me know the counts or the numbers and well go on from there. Let me know which size (L) engine you have. I hope it is a rotational sensor as you should be able to limp it to an autoparts store.
