Chrysler Repair: 01 Concorde will not start, no noise - NEED REPAIRS ON A BUDGET!!, 2001 chrysler concorde, chrysler concorde

Question
Hi Russell. I have a 2001 Chrysler Concorde 2.7L engine. About a week ago, my check engine light popped up on my dashboard. Regretfully, I did not have it checked immediately. Now, when I go to start my car, nothing happens! All of the lights are on & bright, headlights work, radio works, everything works inside the car. When I go to start the car though, it makes absolutely no noise, just silence. About a year ago, it did the same thing only with a clicking noise. I had the battery replaced and that solved the problem. I am thinking it is either the alternator or the starter? Would that have caused the check engine light to pop up in advance? I don't have a lot of money and I want to keep repairs as low as possible. I have checked on the price of a starter and it will cost about $150 to replace, not including the cost of labor. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP.

Answer
I don't believe that your problem lies in the cars battery, alternator or starter. There was a reason for the check engine light to come on and that is something that should be looked into first. Without knowing what fault codes were generated, it will be difficult to help. But there is a way to check what the codes are without going to a repair shop. What you need to do is cycle the ignition key from of to on three time and then watch the odometer display. It will change from displaying mileage to ---- the it should display the fault codes. The codes start with a P and are followed by 4 numbers, such as "P1234". Write down the codes you see and post a follow-up to this question. I'll help as best I can.
