Question
QUESTION: Hi Russell, my car one day just reset while driving, everything shut off for 2 seconds then came back on....a few weeks later came home from work parked car and next day it would not start...it was cold so I thought may need a boost...boosted it drove it down the road and let it sit for 2 hours to re charge...shut it off and wouldnt start again unless being boosted from my truck...called mechanic he said bcm (multi functional module) as u chrysler guys call it lol anyhow so I got another one put it in now my power is all back and no longer needs boost from truck....however as I later find a short in the postive jump location I suspect that was my main problem right from the beginning...now having power back my car will crank but will not catch...so checked fuel pump, filters, lines all is good and gas is still not hitting the plugs...now for the main thing...when i was boosting the car at the beginning of all this I heard some weird zap or surge at the exterior fuse panel...but NOW I think it was right next to the fuse panel at the pcm ???? does this control fuel injectors ??? or do u think it could be fuel relay ???? or could this be due to vtss because I pulled out the bcm ?????  man I'm so close and this is my first do it my self i cant bring it in after putting so much into this lol should I replace pcm and the relays all 8 of them just in case i damaged them ????  please help me and thank you for your time !!!!!

ANSWER: OK, lets see if I have this right. Your car died initially because there was a short to ground on the positive battery cable which you found after you replaced the Body Control Module, which is part of the interior fuse panel. Correct so far? After repairing the short to ground the vehicle cranks but does not start and there appears to be no fuel reaching the injectors. A few questions first. You can easily tell if the car has VTSS. What color is your key? After hearing the snapping sound, did you check all the fuses in the underhood fuse panel with the key on? When you turn the ignition on do you see the "CHECK ENGINE" indicator illuminate?

QUESTION: Yes u r correct...key is normal metal key no chip..however does have power locks and security system...and i noticed that keyless entry isnt working....all fuses are ok....i am going to try and hook batter wires together without battery of course and turn key on for 20 mins ??? is this a good way to reset or do u no anything i can do i think the same thing as you vtss....but with all my orignal computers will this still happen ????

Answer
First, you car is not equipped with a factory VTSS if you have a plain metal key. It probably has an aftermarket system, which could be the root of your problems. I'd have the system removed. Second, touching the battery terminals together will discharge any capacitor in the vehicle module and will not hurt the computers but won't reset the memory any more than just disconnecting the battery.
