Chrysler Repair: Steering wheel locked up, 2005 chrysler 300, power steering pump

while I was driving my engine light came on and my steering wheel locked. I had to stop and put my 2005 Chrysler 300 in park ,turn off ignition and restart vehicle to free up the steering wheel. What do you think could be the cause of this as it has now happen twice. Thank you

I hope you meant to say that by being locked you just didn't have power assist. Have you had the car checked for DTC's? I would suspect that there may be a P0551-POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH PERFORMANCE DTC set. If so I doubt that just replacing the switch will help, it's only an indicator that the PCM did not see the correct switch state. I'd have the power steering pump flow and pressure tested. My guess would be that the pump is failing.
