BMW Repair: valve adjustment, valve adjustment, exhaust valves


Question
I have a '90 325i. When driving I can hear the valves clicking (or what I think is the valves) to the point where it's audible while freeway driving.  The clicking is proportionate to the RPM's.  When I went to adjust my valves, I was unable to get the eccentrics to adjust to the recomended 0.01" or .25mm gap.  Do valve eccentrics get worn down and need replacement?  It seemed that I had the crank to where the rockers on the valve being adjusted where at TDC, or both intake and exhaust valves on cylinder 3 where open equally.  Am I working with the right idea, or way off base?

It sounds like you may have mis-adjusted your valves.  when adjusting valves, it is important that the camshaft lobe is not causeing tention on the rocker.  For a good instruction manual visit:
