Chrysler Repair: 88 New Yorker atc codes: 14, 17, 24, solenoid pack, chrysler new yorker

Question
My atc one my 88 Chrysler New Yorker will not take commands. It has 4 codes, 2,4, 14,& 17. Do you know what these codes mean. I have looked everywhere to find out. I would appreciate your help.  Thank you very much.  Wayne

Answer
Hi Wayne,
I believe that you have a 14, 17, and 24 code (there are no single-digit codes, thus the 24).
The code 17 says there is  an internal failure of the electronic transaxle control module.
The code 14 says that the electronic transaxle relay is always energized: either the points of the relay are sticking or there is a short to battery or short to ground on one or the other side of the actuation coil of the relay, or this could be due to the code 17 cause.
The code 24 says there is a fault in the low/reverse pressure switch function and that can be caused by an actual problem with the switch (requires replacing the solenoid pack or fixing the switch), a problem with the circuit of the switch, or a problem with the transmission control module.
So I guess the implication is that there is an issue with the function of the control module itself, and once that is resolved the other two codes may either disappear or continue and then be dealt with individually as needed. Let me know if you need more detail on the troubleshoot.

PS I have the etax manual for '92 which I believe would be applicable to your '88. I can photocopy the troubleshoot procedures for those codes and postal mail thim to you. If you would re-imburse me for the copy costs (10 cents per side, plus the postage) that would be appreciated. I need to know a postl mailing address which you can give me via follow-up question, but use the 'private' option.
