Chrysler Repair: 99 LHS 3.5 L; P0443 Code, vapor collection, purge solenoid

Question
I recently replaced the motor in my vehicle but had this code pop up. I was told it was because of an exhaust leak. I have now sealed all leaks reset the PCM but it still popped back up. What may be causing this code? The car runs great it just seems like I should get better mpg.

Answer
Hi Marvin,
The code has to do with the vapor recovery system's purge solenoid circuit not responding properly to the pcm control of it. It is located on a bracket near the air cleaner housing and has a round top, an electrical connection and vacuum hoses attached to it which go to the intake manifold and the carbon vapor collection cannister on the forward right corner of the engine compartment.
The connector has two wires: dark green/light green to pin 70 of the pcm, pink/black to pin 68.
You could check the continuity of those wires and also that neither shows a short to ground.
Then measure across the terminals of the solenoid itself. If it is between 10 and 15 ohms then replace the solenoid. With a vacuum pump check that the hose fitting that goes to the intake manifold holds a vacuum.
I believe that one of these tests will reveal the cause of the code.
