Chrysler Repair: 97 Cirrus/Stratus Cigarette Lighter-Power outlet remova, ac radio, kind remarks

Question
Roland, you've done a great job anwswering my other questions a few days ago. I have another question, after looking at the situation further. I felt behind my cigarette lighter (which isn't working) and could not feel any sort of wire attached to the back of the unit. I also cannot feel a loose wire back there. How would I get better access to the back of the lighter to be able to see why the wire is not attached, or to locate the wire, unless it's been removed? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Bill,
To remove the power outlet/cigarette lighter you first have to remove the cubby bin/lamp. That is done as follows:
remove the center bezel by grasping on the sides of the AC/radio surround and pull straight back,
remove instrument cluster hood screws (two screws adjacent to radio, screw below HVAC control panel),
remove screw at left end of instrument cluster hood,
flex the cluster hood slightly to give access to cubby bin screws,
remove those screws and then the cubby bin.
Then you should be able to reach behind the power outlet and disconnect two wiring connectors.
Unscrew shell and clamp assembly to remove the outlet.
Roland
