Chrysler Repair: 97 Sebring Starting Issue, fuel pump filter, transition year

Question
Hi Roland - my 1997 Sebring JXI 2.5L recently died on me.  While driving it started to stutter and seemed to want to stall, I continued to drive and the check engine light came on.  The next morning the car started but died within driving out of the garage.  I had a code read out at Autozone which indicated the TPS.  The TPS has since been replaced and the car still won't start.  The mechanic said the voltage across all three wires is the same.... 2.6V (which is lower than the 5V).  The mechanic suggested it could either be faulty wiring or a bad PCM.  What are your thoughts?

Also, I replaced the fuel pump/filter earlier this summer and spark plugs and wires last year too.

Answer
Try a code readout with the ignition switch and check engine light. It might work as '97 was a transition year. "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then count the number of flashes before each pause on the check engine light. Repeat to be sure of a good count. Let me know the counts in order of appearance. and we'll go from there. Do you have the specific Autozone readout number?
On the TPS, the violet/white wire should show 5V compared to ground.
The signal is measured between the black/light blue and orange/light blue wires and should vary from 0 to 5V as you open/close the throttle. Those latter wires are also accessible on pins 43 and 35 at the pcm. If they all truly read 2.6V compared to ground, then there is a short circuit probably due to melted insulation on the harness somewhere between the sensor and the pcm, so look for that sort of thing.
