Chrysler Repair: 92 dodge b250 318 3spd trans, hydraulic pressures, truck transmissions

Question
Transmission up-shifts hard (too high a speed) on light acceleration and downshifts from 3rd to 2nd gear at too high a speed. Also there is a long pause before shifting into gear from neutral(fwd and rev) when cold. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Bob,
I don't claim expertise in truck transmissions but based upon the 3 speed torque flight transmissions the following are possible causes: hydraulic pressures too low, valve body malfunction or leakage, low/reverse band/servo/or linkage malfunction, aerated fluid, worn or broken input shaft rings. All those are associated with the set of symptoms you describe.
You could try checking the fluid level, adjusting the low/reverse band, and check the hydraulic pressures and if low change the filter. If that doesn't help then service the valve body. Beyond that it appears to require removal and internal servicing.
