Chrysler Repair: 97 Town & Country van: theft system, power door locks, front doors

Question
A couple months back my alarm system got triggered and the van would start then die after about 5 seconds.  We learned that the battery was shot and replaced it.  That fixed the problem.  Or so I thought.  I used my remote to unlock the doors, started the van and then it died.  We have had the battery checked, its still good.  We have unhooked it numerous times, pulled every fuse under the hood, tried unlocking both front doors with the key and the alarm is still set.  What are we missing?  Also, when I use the key in the drivers door, sometimes as you turn the key back to take the key out, it relocks the doors.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
It may be that the wire from the door lock to the body computer is intermittently connected due to fatigue. I presume there is a LED  theft system status light on the dash and that is is not extinguished. The goal is to get that light to go out. Try the passenger side lock/unlock. Try the remote to lock/unlock, while all the doors are closed. Try pulling fuse #28 (labelled 'IOD') in the rear of the box, for a half hour, and then put it back in and observe the light and if necessary try the disarming techniques again.
To avoid 'setting' the system, never use the key, the power door locks, or the remote to lock up the vehicle so as to avoid 'setting' the alarm but rather secure it by means of the mechanical door lock buttons only. Let me know if none of this works and we can try a simulated unlock electrically at the body controller.
