Chrysler Repair: 97 3.5 liter; runs rough/check engine on, 4 digit numbers, chrysler concord

Question
3.5 litre, 24valve V6. It's a 1997 Chrysler Concord. It has 96000km on the clock. Rough idle, sputtering and check engine light came on after 15min of highway driving. Car has been sitting for over a year. Added fresh fuel and injector cleaner.
Where do I go from here?

Answer
Hi Curtis,
The check engine light means there is a fault code stored in the powertrain module memory. Try the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains 'on', to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. Then let me know them in the order of appearance. This may not work on your '97 model but give it a try. If not:
Get a free code readout at an Autozone parts store and ask for the 4-digit numbers that come out.
In either case we'll go from there.
