Land Rover Repair: 98 Discovery Night Lights, discovery land rover, dashboard screen

Question
I drive a 1998 Discovery Land Rover LSE 4.0 Liter V8 engine.  I have not driven my land rover at night because the back night lights don't light up.  I turn the light apparatus once and the dashboard screen and parking lights turn on but when I turn the light apparatus again, the dashboard screen turns off, the head lights turn on and the back lights remain off.  Despite this electrical complication, the brake lights work perfectly well.  I checked both fuse boxes for any burnt fuses and found none.  In the initial state of the problem, I was successful in lighting the dashboard screen, head and back lights by turning the light contraption slowly right before switching back to the parking lights.  I have a feeling it's the bloody contraption, what do you think?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Isreal,

it could be the harness, as you suggest. I would inspect the bulbs and even swap in a new bulb(s) to see if that is the cause.  Also, inspect the rear lightbulb holders as they are prone to corroding over time.  I once found one contact on my Disco rear lightbulb holder had corroded off.  The fix is a new bulbholder connector for about $10.

So...test your rear lightbulbs and inspect the bulb holders.   What you describe is usually attributed to these two components.

Best of luck,
