Chrysler Repair: 91 5th Ave Fuel pump isssie, fuel pump relay, spark coil

Question
Hello Roland, and thanks for your time in advance.  I have a 1991 5th ave 3.3L 200k miles.  Ran fine up till I went and started today.  Cranks but no start.  No fuel pressue. Spark is fine.  I am assuming then crank/cam sensor is fine and they were replaced as with most sensors a year ago.  I guess my question is, how can I tell if it is the fuel pump, or the fuel pump relay or anything else.  There are no codes, and again no pressure comming out of the fuel lines at the line at the tank and at the rail.

Thanks for your time,
John

Answer
Hi John,
The fuel pump should make a sound for about a second when you turn the key to the run position. It comes 'on' again when you start cranking but the noise is too loud to hear it at that point...if the pump is running. There is not a separate fuel pump relay. The output of the autoshutdown relay powers the injectors, the spark coil pack, the oxygen sensor, and the fuel pump. So if you have spark, there should be voltage to the pump on a dark green/black wire. There is one disconnect, a 10-pin black 'on steering column pencil brace', located between the asd output and the pump and which carries that wire. You would do well to find that and check that it is connected and that the wire is showing 12v when you are cranking it over. It if does, then you will need to chect the wire at the pump proper to verify the power is getting to the pump. If it is and the pump isn't humming then it has to be the pump or its ground wire connected to the left rear corner panel.
