Chrysler Repair: Headlight/wiper shared problem 92 Lebaron, illumination lights, jumper cables

Question
QUESTION: When I turn on my low beam headlights the wipers also come on. The wipers remain off if only parking lamps or high beams are on. Also the delay feature on the wipers does not work but high and low speeds work fine. Also where is the wiper delay relay located? Thank you for your time.

ANSWER: Hi Mark,
I would look for a short circuit between an orange/white wire that runs from the left switch pod (relay grounding wire for the low beam relay) and a light blue/red wire from the wiper switch at the right pod to the windshield washer relay (located in the box under the hood). If they are shorted it would be somewhere in the dash near the pods. I don't see anyother explanation of how those two functions could be interconnected except that both are activated by being grounded so if they were shorted together and you requested one you would also get the other. The wiper delay is centered in the body computer, so there is no separate relay for that function.

QUESTION: Hi Roland,
I checked the two wires as suggested and can find no short. When the low headlighrs are on I get power at the blue/white, blue, blue/red, orange wires at the wiper switch plug. When the low headlights are off I get power at the blue, blue/red wires at wiper switch plug. Also the headlights turn on the wipers but the wipers do not turn on the headlights. I spoke with previous owner who stated jumper cables were hooked up backwards on car. Afterwards the radio would not work and the wiper motor would blow fuses and was replaced. He was unsure about the wiper/headlight problem as he gave it to me right after and I drove it home on a sunny day. I am trying to locate a good wiring diagram for this car. Any ideas? Thanks for the help so far.

Answer
Hi Mark,
The orange wire is for the illumination lights. The other wire has to be either: brown/white, dark green/white, or white/black. No blue with white wires shown in my diagrams. The brown/white is the supply to the low speed wiper so that is what is causing the wiper to run, but why is it getting voltage when you don't have the wipers activated is the question. Could there be a short between the orange and the brown/white pins of the switch? The dark green/white is the park/delay function power supply wire from the body computer, while the white/black is the voltage 'signal' from the variable speed sliding resistor to the body computer which should not be getting any voltage unless you have requested for a variable speed on the wiper switch.
The wiring diagrams are available in the '92 front wheel drive manual (1 0f 3) titled 'wiring diagrams' of which 187 pages are for the LeBaron/Daytona cars. These come up on eBay from time to time.
