ANSWER: Hi Kye,
If there are no fault codes showing up on the code reader then you have to think about some item that is not well-detected by the on-board controller. My favorite is the egr valve, particularly if it cuts out when you are slowing down to a stop or acclerating, rather than cruising at a steady speed. Which engine do you have, if what I described is similar to your experience? Otherwise, it could very well be the beginning of the failure of the cam or crank sensor because when they 'go' they often do so only when they get warmed up, then recover as they cool down, etc.,etc. Soon a code will be set when one of them really goes out.
You can watch for it using your ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see the mileage change to show any 4-digit numbers preceded by a P. Tell me the numbers and we can go from there. An 0340 is the cam sensor code, and the 0320 is the crank sensor failure code.

PS Sorry for the delay but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which it had been sent by the other expert, Kevin. Please 'rate' my answer, and where you see the question about 'volunteer of the month' please consider a 'yes' answere if this response has been helpful. Thanks

QUESTION: hi again thank you we will try that as well ill get that engine number and any code that comes up and let you know also do you know how to turn the service light off on the dash its been serviced already but dont know how to turn it off.thanks

Answer
Hi Kye,
You can cancel the fault codes in the memory by disconnecting the battery for a few seconds, except for a 1684 code that will be set because of the disconnect. But that code doesn't cause the check engine light to come on.  But if a fault item is again detected, depending upon the fault, the check engine light will come on again if called for by the fault. Once the fault is repaired and the codes cancelled by the battery disconnect that will end the light until any new codes come up.
