Chrysler Repair: Replacing coolant on 00 Chrysler Caravan, oil filler cap, change occured

Question
Hello,

I have a 2000 Chrysler Dodge Caravan and the A/C ran out of coolant.  I want to manually put the coolant in but I do not know where to put it in.  I tried looking for a diagram to show me where to put the coolant and have had no luck.  The owner's manual that came with the car also does not help point it out and I need to know where to put the coolant in.

Thank you

Answer
Hi Roberto,
The '00 model may be set up like the '98 or like the '02, which are the two manuals that I have.
On the '98 the ports are mounted in the low and high pressure lines proper: the high pressure is in the high pressure line and is located near the right side frame rail (low in the compartment), and the low pressure suction port (which is the place where you want to add the refrigerant) is in the low pressure line very close to the compressor (and higher in the compartment near the engine oil filler cap).
On the '02 the ports are on the compressor proper, at the far end from the compressor drive belt. The high pressure port is on the top at the far end, while the suction port is just below (and toward the front of the vehicle) from the high pressure port.
I believe that the adapter hose/can fitting device will only mate with the suction port so that too is another way to be sure that you have the correct port.
Sorry that I don't have the '00 manual, but it has to be one way or the other; I just don't know when the change occured.
If the refrigerant has totally leaked out of the system and been replaced by air then you would want to have the refrigerant put in at a shop using a machine that will evacuate the air from the system before the refrigerant is added. Otherwise it will not fill properly.
