BMW Repair: BMW, oil light, connecting rod bearings, main bearings

Question
My 2002 330i has 97000 miles on it.  I bought it used at 60000 miles.  I have had oil changed every 6000 miles and last week took it in for alignment, the guy said he was driving it back to the shop and the oil pressure light came on and the engine seized up.  There was alot of sludge built up in the engine area.  He replaced the filter which was clogged and changed the oil 2x and even ran one change through with a cleaner.  That still did not get the light to come off.  Next he said he needs to try and take off the oil pan and do something with the screen it may be clogged, then next step do an profile on the engine and clean it out.  He says i may need a new engine.  Is this really happening?  Does this sound common, is he doing the right things, what is your opinione?  I never heard any noise coming from engine, no warning lights.  I am stressed!!!

Answer
Jennifer the motor seized up then you more than likely will need major engine work. You may or may not need a complete remanufactured engine. Some parts may be saved through machine work. You do need to remove the oil pan and valve cover and inspect the camshafts on top and the connecting rod bearings & main bearings. What is the oil pressure reading? Jen, sorry to say but this one is going to cost you.
