Chrysler Repair: 00 Sebring jxi: power top relays, motor noise, pin plug

Question
could you please let me know where the top up/down relay(s) is/are on a 2000 jxi?  top went down, now won't go up.  no motor noise when trying to put up.  also drained battery overnight.  up relay stuck shut?  thanx, woody

Answer
Hi Woody,
The up/down relays are very near the top power motor in the front of the trunk to the right of center. There are two relays but it appears to be a single module with a 6-pin plug. The pump power that the relays control comes from fuse 17 in the underhood box, while the power to operate the relays comes from fuse 4 behind the dash which actually powers a separate relay in the underhood box which then sends power to the operating switch and from there to the relays in the trunk which control the power for the pump. The underhood relay is not powered except when the key is in the run position, so I would suspect that current was somehow being drawn through fuse 17 which is connected directly to the battery and sent to the pump motor, and lost somewhere in that process, if the battery discharged overnight. It could be that the up or down relay is stuck closed, which you would determine by finding pin C connected to either pin B or pin D of the up/down relay module even though you aren't trying to operate the top. If there is no connection between C and B or C and E then that would not support the idea of a failed closed relay inside the module. The actuation coils of the relay module are on pins A and F and are activated by 12V coming to those pins from the top control switch (open on pin F, close on pin A), but that circuit should have been cold if the key was off.
