Volvo: 1989 volvo 240dl starting problems, fuel pump relay, volvo 240dl

Question
I have a 1989 volvo 244dl It would not start. First check for gas, put some more in, then it still would no start. sprayed some starter fluid in the air intake and it started and ran fine. after you shut engine off it would not restart. You can spray more starter fluid and it will start. So I first found the gas filter under the car and change it, still did not work, then changed the fuel pump (one outside the tank), Still didn`t work then changed the fuel pump relay, STILL DOESN`T WORK AHHHH. I am still a the start of this I can Spary starter fluid in and it will start and run till you shut the engine off. I was told the look at a cold start injector. want do you think??? or is there something else to check, were would the cold start injector be.  HELP

Answer
Brian,
You can look on the manifold for a cold start injector, but your car may not have one, not all systems do. Most also do not need the cold start injector when the engine is warmed up. You may be having problems with fuel pressure, whether it be the pump or the regulator. Might have injectors that are clogged and not spraying well. Could the main pump be working too hard because the in tank pump is not working and the supply of fuel is diminished?
