Chrysler Repair: 95 LHS climate control issue, heater coils, hot summer day

My climate control works fine most of the time but it will shut off from time to time, mainly when there are large temparature changes....The "default" mode kicks in and the compressor starts and it belchs out HEAT, this is very annoying on a hot summer day...I get an error code of 33 when i ran a diagnostic check...thanks..BOB

The code 33 says there is a stall failure of the mode door or its actuator which is an air distribution variable device not a temperature variable device like the blend door and its actuator. What do you mean by the ATC control will 'shut off' from time to time? What is the symptom of shutting off, and what is the 'default mode' which I haven't heard of till now? When the compressor runs and you only get hot air, I would wonder if the blend door is rather failing to move the air across the ac cooling coils and instead sending it all over the heater coils. But that would likely be a  23 or 32 code, so I can't make sense of this.
