Chrysler Repair: 1997 T & C lxi 3.8: Stalls, exhaust gas recirculation valve, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
Hello, my name is rebecca and i own a 1997 chrysler town n country and it has been having some stalling issues.  When it gets about half a tank of gas, it acts up worse.  Everytime i have to turn it starts to jerk.  When i am at a stop light, it acts like it is going to shut off, then when i accelerate, it jerks like it is being choked.  When i fill it up with gas all the way it seems to run fine.  I had the fuel pump replaced about a year and a half ago.  Do you know what could be causing this problem?  Would the fuel filter have anything to do with this?  I think it also needs an allignment.

Answer
Hi Rebecca,
The best thing to do is get a fault code readout either at an Autozone parts store for free or at an independent garage for under $40. Find out if any 4-digit codes were stored in the engine controller memory and let me know what they are.
I don't think the fuel filter is involved nor anything to do with the fuel pump, nor with how much fuel is in the tank. More likely it is involved with the engine.
A common item that causes what you describe is the exhaust gas recirculation valve which can get sticky in its function and not close all the way at idle and when accelerating, and that causes a too lean fuel mixture so the engine stalls. If you are 'into' looking into that let me know and I will describe how to find it and a simple fix.
The alignment has nothing to do with any of the problems you described.
