Chrysler Repair: CRANK SENSOR: 300C 5.9L, chrysler 300 c hemi, chrysler 300 c

Question
QUESTION: COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHERE TO LOCATE THE CRANK SENSOR IN THE CHRYSLER 300C

ANSWER: Hi Sheree,
I assume that you have the 3.5L engine; if not, let me know.
The crankshaft sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine at the seam between the engine and the transmission. It is mounted in a hole at the very rear of the engine block. You can access it better from underneath the car so jack up the passenger side front wheel and support the car on a jack stand. It has a three wire harness (lift tab to remove,) and is held in place by a single mounting screw. The tip of the sensor is held close to the edge of the drive plate that connects the engine to the torque converter. If you purchase a replacement sensor before hand you will be better able to recognized its location.
The new sensor will have a paper spacer on its tip. You insert the new sensor in the hole and hold it so the tip touches the hidden metal surface of the drive plate. Then while holding it there tighten the mounting screw to about 9 foot-pounds. When the engine rotates the drive plate will rub against the spacer, wear it away, but leave a space that is correct to produce electrical pulsing without the tip actually touching the plate. Reconnect the harness.

QUESTION: SORRY BOUT THAT IT IS A 5.7 ENGIN WITH 16 SPARK PLUGS IT THE CHRYSLER 300 C HEMI

Answer
Hi Sheree,
The location is basically the same on the 5.9 as I described, and best accessed from below. If you have the all-wheel drive feature the starter motor will need to be removed for access to the sensor. The sensor may not come with a paper spacer because it is mounted in a machined hole at the very rear of the block and which automatically sets the distance of the tip from the surface of the drive plate. Remove its mounting bolt and the 3-wire harness connector (lift tab; dark blue/white, dark blue/dark green, pink/yellow wires). Ease it out of the hole into which it is inserted and held by an o-ring seal.
To install the new sensor: Put a little bit of oil on the new  o-ring seal then install the sensor with a combination of rocking and twisting, and be sure that the tang is flat against the block which assures a proper positioning of the tip and that the tang will not be bent when you install the mounting bolt. Tighten bolt to 9 foot-pounds, reconnect harness.
