Chrysler Repair: 01: 2.4L no start, camshaft sprockets, chrysler voyager

Question
Hi
I have a 2001 voyager van 2.4L 4 cylinder the timing belt broke I changed, I aligned the timing marks, put everything together the but the car wont start. check codes no codes only 1864 which is battery has been disconnected. I know the battery is bad but it has enough voltage I also tried to jumped it but it wont start the gauge inside sweep and reset. how much do this van relay in the battery? I know the older car would work when you jump it and some of the newer ones wont work if the battery is bad. where does the Chrysler voyager stand. or should I check something else should I check the timing marks again or is the voyager one of those cars that relay in the battery?

Thanks for your help
Juan

Answer
Hi Juan,
I doubt it has to do with the battery, though you may want to charge it up so as to give yourself the best chance.
Are you getting spark? Check with a screwdriver inserted in one of the spark caps and hold the shaft 1/4" from the cylinder head, then watch for a spark to jump the gap when a helper cranks the starter. Do you hear the fuel pump run for about 1-2 seconds when you turn the key to 'run' position?
When you replaced the timing belt and set the marks, did you also have the crankshaft timing mark in the proper alignment when you set the cam shaft sprockt marks? You might want to look again if it is not too much work. Another way to check the engine function would be to use a compression test gauge to see what sort of reading you get when you remove all 4 plugs, and test the compression of each cylinder while cranking it over.
It is possible that although the pistons and valves don't 'interfere', if the camshaft sprockets were moved individually (instead of moving both at the same time) that the intake and exhaust valves my have 'interfered' with one another and damagmed one or more valves. A compression comparison reading of the 4 cylinders would reveal if that is the cause.
Those are some ideas for you to try.

Sorry for the delay in answering but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which it had been referred by the other expert.
