Chrysler Repair: Code 1296: 2.5L V-6, chrysler sebring convertible, throttle position sensor

Question
I have the same car a 1996 chrysler sebring convertible and it is having the same problem as well. I have gotten the check enging light as well with the code p1296 and I think that would be the same thing you guys are talking about with the 12 and 14 code it is just short term for p1296 correct? I have also replaced the throttle position censor as well, now 2 weeks later the light is now on again with the same code. My Sebring is also stalling as well when I drive and when I brake I get a little kick too. What is you advice towards this? Do I check all wiring and for shorts? Or is it another censor? Do I have to replace the tps censor again? Please respond back if possible. Thank you

Answer
Hi Ryan,
The code 1296 says that the 5v supply to the manifold absolute pressure sensor is not found to be there, and the 1295 says the same 5v supply to the throttle position sensor is not found to be there. It is a violet/white wire that comes from pin 61 of the pcm plug. It also supplies the same 5v to the AC pressure sensor switch. So you would want to find out whether only the MAP sensor is missing its 5v or all three sensors are missing it. It could be that the violet/white wire is shorted somewhere to ground or that one of those sensors is shorting the voltage to ground. My inclination would be to unplug all three sensors, turn on the ignition to the 'run' position and check for 5v at the plugs: pin B at the AC sensor, pin 3 at the TPS, and pin B at the MAP. All three are supplied out of the same splice near the egr valve. If the voltage is present with all disconnected, then try connecting them one at a time to see if the voltage drops out at the other plugs when any one of them is connected and that would tell you which sensor is causing the problem. Try also shaking their harness wires as the short could be intermittent and depend upon the position of the harness near a ground point if the insulation on the wire were compromised.
The 14 code does point to the MAP sensor not have its 5v as well. In '96 you could get codes both in 2-digit numbers and 4-digit numbers.
