Chrysler Repair: Turn signal indicator malfunction:00 minivan, turn signal switch, multifunction switch

Question
My 2000 town and county was serviced recently and a rear left bulb was replaced.  Now my left signal indicator is on and when I turn my lights on a warning bell start to ring after 10-15 minutes.

Answer
Hi Erin,
You didn't mention what led you to replace the left bulb, originally. Was it just not working or was something unusal happening?
The warning bell starting to come on is normal if the lever is kept too long in the left or right turn mode, that is what should happen to remind you to cancel the turn signal.
If you have tried centering the turn lever of the multifunction switch and it still remains that the indicator light is 'on', does that mean the turn signal bulbs on the left side are flashing too when you don't ask for them? If not, does the left side turn signal bulbs flash normally when you do ask for them via the multifunction switch?
It is possible that there is an electical malfunction in the turn signal switch itself. Rather than carrying current to the bulbs on either side, what it does is modify an internal resistive pathway which the body computer 'observes' and the body computer actually directs the currents to the various bulbs controlled by the switch. To test the switch with an ohmmeter all you need to do is remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds (to gain aceess to the switch; simply remove the three screws on the under side of the column and the two shrouds will separate).
Pull the plug from the switch. The measure between pins 2 and 3 of the switch (the middle two pins): when you ask for right turn the resistance should be 1,000 ohms +/- 50 ohms, and for left it should be 1,700 ohms +/- 85 ohms. If it doesn't show those values then the switch is malfunctioning and should be replaced or investigated for dirty switch contacts or disconnected resistors in the interior of the switch.
If that checks out, then I would check out the bulb holder at the left rear turn signal bulb as it could be shorted out which might cause what you observe. Those sockets are flimsy and have been a source of 'gremlins' in the system. A new holder can be obtained at a dealer's parts counter. Please let me know what you learn so your experience can be shared with others.
