Chrysler Repair: 2004 Sebring Conv,: Heated Seat no work, thumb wheel, metal chassis

Question
I have a 2004 Sebring Convertible Limited. Recently the Drivers heated seat is no longer heating. The thumb wheel switch will illuminate but no heat.  The passenger seat heats correctly with no problems. Of course this is my wife's car, and it has been 20 degrees out side for over a week now.  Also everything else is working correctly.  The car has 77000 miles and regular maintenance.  Where should I start, and is it possible to swap parts from the passenger seat for testing if needed?
Your time and attention is greatly appreciated. Greg

Answer
Hi Greg,
The first thing to check is the output of the control switch to verify that it is passing 12v on to the control module at the seat. Pin 5 of that unit's plug (light blue/black) should show 12V and also pin 3 (red/white) similarly, compared to ground (any shiny metal chassis surface) nearby, when you turn 'on' for heat. Then check at the power seat module (located on the seat) at the arrival point of those two wires. Pin H of the seat module is the power source to heat the seat, and it should show 12v compared to ground so long as the seat is cold enough to need heating. The current flows through the two heat elements in the seat in series and thence to ground. So if you have voltage at pin H but no heating, then there is a disconnect in the heating element circuit to ground: either an element, a connection, or the ground point is 'open'.
There are 8 pages in the '94 manual which I have on CD and could, I believe, print and postal mail to you which shows the seat structure, circuits, testing, repair, etc.
Should you like those, let me know a postal mailing address. I will send these with the understanding that you would send me back four 44-cent stamps to cover my costs after you receive them.
