Chrysler Repair: 1998 Sebring lxi 2.5l v6:hard start/stalls out, chrysler sebring lxi, 1998 chrysler sebring lxi

Question
I just got a 1998 Chrysler Sebring Lxi. When its cold outside it has problems trying to turn on and when it does and i put it in gear it stalls and turns off. We took it to a mechanic and spent 5,000.00 in computer, distributer, ect. and a friend told me that it could be the sensors. I havent done it yet can you give me an idea to what it could be.

Answer
Hi Doel.
Try using the ignition key to get fault codes:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapased time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading changes to show any 4-digit numbers preceded by a P. If so let me know what those numbers are. If that doesn't work, then look for an Autozone parts store nearby where they will do a free code readout. Ask for the numbers, what they mean and what they recommend doing, then let me know and we'll compare notes.
If the stallout is just as if you 'popped' the clutch with a shift transmission, then I would surmise that the torque converter lock-up clutch may be stuck in the locked up position when it should not do that until you are going over 45 mph and then release as you drop below that speed. Did it do this when you first got the car or is it something new?
For $5,000 tell me what was done so I don't suggest something that already was repaired. What kind of a mechanic shop was this? What sort or warranty/promises were offered. At that price he ought to do a free code readout on the spot at your request.
I am concerned that you may have been taken advantage of, but you can pursue remedy or small claims court if necessary.
What is the history of the vehicle?
