Chrysler Repair: Heat works only when engine is cold, temp guage, cold question

Question
QUESTION: When I turn my 3.8 Literr, 1996 Chrysler T/C on in the morning (after AT LEAST 5-6 hours of shut down) the heat will work after 20-30 minutes.  (Depending on how cold it is...it's 6 degrees out right now!)  Once I stop the van, unless I start it up within 10 seconds approx, there is NO HEAT for at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours.  I drive a lot for my sales job (lot's of stops) so I can't let it idle all the time.  I have noticed that when there is no heat, I can slide the Interior Temp guage to cold or hot and there is no change.  Also, my recycled air will not kick on.  My mechanic is flumoxed on this and so am I...here's hopin you can tell me something!  (By the way...if there is a way to set the car to ALWAYS give heat when the fan is on, that is fine.  I don't drive it in the summer much and the A/C compressor is shot.)

ANSWER: ok so when u say u get no heat  u really mean  the fan is not working  or the air coming out is cold?

QUESTION: The Fan works, but the recycled air button produces no additional "kick" to the system.  Could a "Vapor Lock" be the problem?  I recently found out the hose to the rear Heater had come loose due to a snow bank issue!  It leaked all the fluid in the system out and has now left me with a Heck of a lot of air in the hoses.  Should I idle the system and add more fluid?  According to my mechanic, when he hooked up an analyzer or whatever it's called, to the computer in the car, it told him there was no "call for heat" being sent to the system.

Answer
"According to my mechanic, when he hooked up an analyzer or whatever it's called, to the computer in the car, it told him there was no "call for heat" being sent to the system"
What a dumb ass  there is no such thing as a call for heat.
There is always hot coolant going through the heater core at all times when engine is warm the only thing that moves it from hot to cold is the motor for the blend air door  its electrical.
Do u have dual temp control or single zone?
