Chrysler Repair: Horn going off when key is removed: 02 minivan, drb iii, bells and whistles

Question
THANKS FOR THE INFO. ROLAND. TRIED YOUR SUGGESTIONS BUT STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. A AUTOMOTIVE SHOP SUGGESTED THAT THE 'FRONT CONTROL MODULE MAY BE THE PROBLEM. WHAT DO YOU THINK? MAY HAVE TO GO TO CHRYSLER AS THEY MIGHT HAVE TESTING EQUIPMENT TO FIND THE PROBLEM. TOOK OUT THE RELAY SO NOT A MAJOR ISSUE. WOULD CERTAINLY LIKE TO FIND THE SOLUTION. WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED.
THANKS AGAIN
CLARENCE

Answer
Hi Clarence,
If you would like to just have simple horn function, without the 'bells and whistles' let me know. I suspect a complete fix will not be inexpensive compared to just cutting out the electronic control of the relay that just allows the horn switch on the steering wheel to do its function alone. The dealer can use the DRB III to check for a reason that the front control module is activating the horn relay when you turn off the the key. If there is no explanation they will probably suggest replacing the fcm, which is no doubt a costly part unless you can find one at a pull-it-yourself wrecking yard. It is easy to remove and install.
The alternative would be to rewire the horn relay to disconnect its grounding pin (#85, blows the horn when grounded) from the fcm and instead connect the wire from the horn switch (which is also in the box) directly to the grounding pin. But I will be interested to learn if the dealer finds an alternative that is better than either of these alternatives.
