Chrysler Repair: Dodge Ram 1500:P0740 code, torque converter clutch, dodge ram 1500

Question
The check engine light on my '00 Dodge Ram 1500 recently came on and I took it to Autozone for an analysis.  They said that it was an error P1740 TCC or Overdrive selenoid performance condition.  I looked all over on-line for these parts (since I have never heard of either) and was wondering where I can find them and how to repair them.

Answer
Hi Timothy,
The torque converter clutch is inside the transmission so it is less likely to be something at an autoparts store. If you have the 3-speed non-electronic auto transmission then you are likely to have a single orange/black wire connector to the trans (about the only wire there would be with a single wire connector) which you could check out. On the electronic 4-speed trans it is controlled more complexly and probably not be an issue with the wiring. The code is basically telling you that the converter is not locking up at high rpm and speed as tightly as it should, i.e. some slippage, which simply means a slight loss of fuel economy. The lock up feature is not present on many automaticss, so I would not worry about it until/unles a rebuild for other reasons is required which is when it can be dealt with. The number is actually 0740, correct? That is the one for the TCC.
