Chrysler Repair: Heater problem 2005 Sebring, diagnostic capability, digital numbers

Question
Hi Roland,

I have a 2005 Sebring Limited Conv., I have only had it a few months, purchased it used.  I know for sure that I have a problem with the A/C condensation tube not being long enough because the passenger side floor gets wet (got the answer off of allexperts.com, thank you.)  However, now I have another problem.  The heater is only blowing hot air, if I am driving the air just gets hotter.  It doesn't matter what I have the thermostat set on, it could say 67 deg., but it's 90 deg hot air coming from the vents.  Any ideas on what this might be?

Thanks in advance.

Denise

Answer
Hi Denise,
I don't have an '05 shop manual so I am going to have to do some guessing. I will be getting an '04 manual shortly and that may be applicable, so keep that it mind to get back to me at the weekend.
It sounds like you have an Automatic Temp Control (ATC) type of unit becaust you mention digital numbers for the temperature settings. If that is the case then it is likely that there is some self-diagnostic capability in the unit. If there is a floor, mix, defrost button set up, side by side, try pressing and holding all three of those simultaneously. The display may start blinking and when it does release the buttons simultaneously and wait for any two-digit numbers to reappear after a while. Let me know what it is and we'll go from there.
The problem is likely to be due to the 'blend air door', which mixes varying amounts of heated and non-heated air together to create the desired temperature. It sometimes will get stuck in one position or the actuator that moves it may quit working. Fortunately it is on the bottom of the unit and can be accessed without any dismantling to speak of. But proceed with the fault code test and tell be what you find and I will await the arrival of the '04 manual and we can proceed ahead.
