Chrysler Repair: 2000 neon stalling, neon 2, diagnostic capability

Question
Hi, Last week my Neon 2.0 liter stalled, she has never done this before.  When you come to stop it stalls or at least tries to.  Then if it didn't stall when stopping it stalled when accelerating from a start.  We have pushed the sparkplug tubes back down their cylinders thinking that was the problem because oil was seeping up the tube, seemed to help for a day.  We replaced the sparkplugs and wires, seemed to work for a couple of blocks.  We thought maybe bad gas, as shortly after filling up at a station we don't frequent all this started.  Called auto parts store for a fuel filter, they say it is an in tank filter.  Is that correct?
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated
thank you Julie

Answer
Hi Julie,
The easiest way to find a reason is to take advantage of the built-in diagnostic capability of the engine control system. Use the ignition key: turn it "on-off-on-off-on and leave on", doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to observe that the mileage reading will change to show 4-digit number(s) preceded by a P. Those would be codes for what is the cause of the stalling. Let me know the numbers and we'll go from there.
