Chrysler Repair: Sebring hesitating, independent repair, engine controller

Question
I have a 2001 sabring convertible and when I am idling it will be smooth and then cut out or if I am traveling at any speed the car will jerk or hesitate at different intervals.

I noticed that the cruise control light will flash on when the hesitation happens then disappears several seconds later.

The car runs smooth otherwise and the intervals can be upto ten minutes apart.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Keith

Answer
Hi Keith,
I would suggest that you try for a fault code readout of the engine controller using a diagnostic readout box. If there is an Autozone parts store nearby they will often do that readout for free. Ask the 4-digit fault code numbers, what they mean, what they recommend doing. Then get back and we will compare notes with the shop manual on these codes. An independent repair shop will usually do the readout for less than $40. If you write back, be sure to mention which engine is in the car.
