Chrysler Repair: Town and Country repair frequency, chrysler town and country, kia sedona

Question
The  Chrysler town and country has poor reliability ratings.  What does that mean, exactly?  Any opinions on their reliability from personal experience?  (I ask because the Kia Sedona also has the same rating, per consumer reports, yet my friend who owns a dealership says he's paid almost nothing in warranty claims, they are so reliable).

Hi Amy,
If you look in the Consumer Reports April addition each year or the annual volume in the library the frequency of repair records as reported by subscribers are shown for the various models and years going back 5 years. That is the basis for the overall rating but will show you which specific systems have a more or less than average reliability rating. I would check those out, consider the cost of repair for each of the systems, and if looking for a used car focus my attention on the model years with better experiences and where the weaker systems are less costly to repair (i.e. downgrade if the transmission or engine is poorer perfoming). I haven't done that for the T and C myself so I can't be specific about this rating you mention. But notice that these represent the odds of each system requiring repair and as such will not guarantee either repair is certain or not going to be required. That is my understanding of the overall concept of 'reliability'. It doesn't refer specifically to whether when you go to use the vehicle it will or won't work for you which is how you might otherwise interpret the word.
