Chrysler Repair: hard to start when cold, fuel pressure regulator, alignment tab

QUESTION: I asked yesterday about hard to start when cold... you said to turn switch 3 plus times. I did and it worked. so now the question.is the check valve in the fuel filter( as some are) or  will I be changing a new fuel pump. (as that is my guess) help me if you will.... thanks.. where is the pump?, where is the filter? thanks again for the help. wayne

ANSWER: what kinda car is this again?  the fuel pump is in the gas tank.

QUESTION: I have a 98 intrepid. 2.7. does the fuel filter have the check valve. Is the filter under the car? does the fuel pump have the check valve? does it take special tools to change anything?

FUEL FILTER/FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR
A combination fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator is used on all gas powered engines. It is located on the top of the fuel pump module. A separate frame mounted fuel filter is not used

FUEL PUMP MODULE
REMOVAL
Release fuel pressure, Refer to Fuel System Pressure Release Procedure in Group 14, Fuel Delivery.
Remove Fuel Tank refer to the Fuel Tank Removal/Installation in this group
WARNING: THE FUEL RESERVOIR OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE DOES NOT EMPTY OUT WHEN THE TANK IS DRAINED. THE FUEL IN THE RESERVOIR WILL SPILL OUT WHEN THE MODULE IS REMOVED.

Disconnect fuel line from fuel pump module by depressing quick connect retainers with thumb and fore finger.
Slide fuel pump module electrical connector lock to unlock.
Disconnect the electrical connection from the fuel pump module, by pushing down on connector retainer and pulling connector off of module.
Use Special Tool 6856 to remove fuel pump module locknut Fuel Tank Locknut
Remove fuel pump and O-ring seal from tank. Discard old seal
INSTALLATION
Wipe seal area of tank clean and place a new seal in position in the tank opening.
Position fuel pump in the tank. Make sure the alignment tab on the underside of the fuel pump module flange sits in the notch on the fuel tank Fuel Tank Locator Notch
Position the locknut over the fuel pump module.
Tighten the locknut using Special Tool 6856 to 55 N·m (40.5 ft. lbs.)
CAUTION: Over tightening the pump lock ring may result in a leak.

Raise the fuel tank on the transmission stand.
Install fuel pump electrical connector into hole in the body.
Connect the purge and vent lines.
Raise tank into position and install tank straps.
Install the fuel filler tube and tighten the clamp.
Reposition the stabilizer bar and install bolts.
Lower vehicle.
Connect the fuel pump electrical connector that is in the rear seat.
Install the rear seat.
Connect the battery cable.
Fill fuel tank. Use the DRB scan tool to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks
