Chrysler Repair: 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager 3.0L V-6, plymouth grand voyager, voyager 3

Question
The engine hesitates or stalls when you step on the throttle when it is in gear and on the road. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter with new parts. I have spark and the timming looks good. It is a little hard to start, have to crank it a couple seconds more than normal to get it started. I checked compression on a couple of cylinders and they were around 120lbs.

Answer
Hi Tom,
Have you checked the egr for possibly having a sluggish valve action? It is in the pipe that crosses over from the front to the rear exhaust manifold. The valve has a stem with a slot that allows you to see the action as you rev the engine and also to move the valve stem by inserting the tip of a screwdriver in the slot. Test its action to see if the internal spring-action closes it to a dead stop. If not, squirt the stem with WD-40 where it enter the body of the valve and move the stem to loosen it up. Then see if that helps with you hesitation and hard starting. If the valve sticks slightly ajar that will dilute the mixture when starting or accelerating.
