Chrysler Repair: 94 3.5L head gasket replacement, cylinder head bolts, head gasket replacement

Question
thank you for - offering such a valuable --- personalized resource too myself an, others.

I purchased a 1994 chry concrd 4dr, w/ a 3.5 l. engine. I was informed that it would require the head gaskets ( $ 151 ) too be replaced. I own basic tools -- and, I understand that this is not a project for the inexperienced mechanic ... I will have the chrysler 'bible' ( chilton ) near by; And have a copy of your response too aid me. My questions will appear either : simply dumb, or --- a nescisary an, relevent question.

1)   will the use of a come-a-long (cherry picker/hoist) be a tool I may need after all ?
2)   besides the head gaskets ( an, gasket sealer ), and, the O-rings ( water pump passages ), and the exception of the possibility of replacing the cylinder head bolts ... if any ... What other exspenses have I over looked, or simply just, are not aware of ?
3)  and also ... do I have the heads inspected for ... or, just have them done ... refering too ... having any wapidge on the heads - plained off/resurfaced ?

Thank you -- an, I appriciate you offering such greatly needed assistance too the less (financially) fortunate people of this country, ( an, world )

Answer
Hi John,
A hoist or cherry picker isn't necessary. I can't think of any other major part replacements. The cylinder head bolts may not need to be replaced. According to the manual if you plase a straight edge along the threads and find no "neckage" meaning the bolt has not strectched such that threads are not narrower in some areas as compared to the overall diameter of the threads, then the bolts can be reused.
I am unclear why it is that both head gaskets have to be replaced. Is there firm evidence that both gaskets are leaking? If so what is that evidence/history that would lead to that conclusion?
If you have the heads off of course you want to have them checked for flatness, and the other thing to do is a 'valve job' if there is evidence for that being needed based upon compression testing and leak down test. So do check into whether what you think needs to be done actually is necessary.
I would not consider the Chilton to be a 'bible'. I can xerox copy the pages from the factory manual for the '94 3.5L and postal mail those to you. It is 34 pages overall and I can copy them for 6 cents a side and with postage the total cost would be about $3.00. You could reimburse for that after you got the pages. Let me know a postal mailing address if you want them.

PS Thanks for the kind remarks. I found your question this morning in the 'pool' to which Kevin had referred it.
