Chrysler Repair: 1999 Grand Voyager dies while driving, voyager 3, grand voyager

Question
My 1999 Grand Voyager (3.3l flex engine) sometimes dies while driving.  No sputtering, the first indication is that I have no power steering.  It might happen once per week.  It usually happens when my foot is off the gas pedal.  It will restart (sometimes I have to restart a couple of times) and be fine.  I also sometimes get an error code for "engine performance at idle" which may or may not happen when it dies.  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Don
I would begin with the egr valve that is located near the rear of the engine, under the throttle body in a small pipe that runs from the rear manifold to the throttle body.  It has a round top, and a flange in-between that and the valve body proper that is in the pipe itself. In the flange area you will find the valve stem with a slot into which the tip of a screwdriver can be inserted. Spray some WD-40 on the stem where it enters the body of the valve and then work the stem back and forth with the tip of the screwdriver.
If that valve were not closing tightly when you take your foot off the gas the engine will die for too lean a mixture.
