Chrysler Repair: Chrysler 300M No Bus Gauges failure.., tilt wheel, chrysler 300m

Question
My 1999 Chrysler 300M started reading "no bus" in the dashboard where the mileage should display. All of my gauges are inoperative. I have a few lights on. the gas light, brake, airbag light, check engine and I cant see what gear I am in. I had an interlock device in my vehicle for 1 year that has just been taken out and the problem is still present. My car runs perfect besides the gauges not working.

Answer
Hi Ryan,
I would believe that the electrical connection to the digital data bus is compromised on the circuit board where pin 5 of the green socket is soldered to the board.  The cluster data comes in on the PCI bus yellow/violet wire to that pin and if the solder joint loosens up you will get a "no bus" indication. So to check that you will want to remove the left end cap of the dash (after opening driver side door to access the cap, lower the tilt wheel to lowest position), then you can pry/push out the cluster bezel with a wooden stick by means of that opening, then remove the screws that hold the cluster in place. You may not have to remove the plug in order to re-heat the solder joint but if you do there are tabs so that a hook type device can be used to remove the plug (it takes about 20 pounds of force to remove the plug). If that doesn't restore the function, the other end of the wire is located at pin 13 of the body control module's gray plug (the module is on the back side of the fuse box).
