Chrysler Repair: Drivers door alarm system on a Jeep Grand Cherokee 1995, jeep grand cherokee, jeep manuals

Question
I replaced the drivers side door latch mechanism on my jeep grand Cherokee 1995, and for some reason the alarm system trips almost every time I use my drivers door. How does the alarm system sense the door, and what options do I have about fixing it / disarming it?

Any help would be appreciated
Thankyou

Answer
Hi Jon,
I don't have any Jeep manuals, but for sure the door key lock has a wire that arms and disarms the system. If that wire were not connected then the system would not be disarmed when you unlock the door. So check that out. The door ajar switch plays a role in alerting the theft system when a door is opened. If the ajar switch was not positive in its sensing that could set off false alarms.
The '95 year was a period in the transition from a separate theft module (usually located above the glove box (remove the glove box to see if you find a module with a 21-pin natural color plug) to a theft system centered in the body computer. If you had the former you can disconnect the system by pulling that plug out of the module BUT only do that while the engine is running or you will cause a 'hard' shut down requiring a diagnostic box to correct. If you don't have such a module it is not possible to disconnect the theft system from the body computer and so you have to fix the problem.
Sorry to not be specific, but what I have described is for the Chrysler cars/minivans in that time frame.
