Chrysler Repair: 2002 PT Cruiser/Error code P0601, crazy noises, vin number

Hi...i purchased a 2002 PT from an auction about 7 months ago. about a month and a half ago the car started making crazy noises, shutting off if i idle too long and the engine light is staying on. i was finally able to get a printout and an error code from an auto shop. i was told i need a new "computer" can i buy this used or only from the dealer? and is buying a whole new computer the only solution, seems expensive, HELP!!! Thanx!

Hi Mye,
Unfortunately that code only has one solution, a replacement engine computer. I am pretty certain you can get a replacement used from a wrecking yard. You would want one from the same year, model, engine, transmission, and matching anti-theft/security key system provision (with or without)? Then you would want to take it to a shop that would put in the proper VIN number and mileage reading into the memory of the computer.
