Chrysler Repair: windshield washer pump;99 300M, volt ohm meter, windshield washer

Question
My washer fluid won't pump, I've checked all the fuses that are related to the
wipers or washer in any way and I have filled the reservoir and can't find
anything wrong.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Houston,
It either has to be the power to the pump, the pump or the activation switch, so if you have a volt-ohm meter or ever a 12V glow light you should be able to verify which. Please tell me the year/make/model/body style and I should be able to give you some tips on narrrowing down the fault.

It is a 4-door 1999 chrysler 300M.

Hi Jim,
It is a simple electrical issue: the same fuse that powers the wipers also powers the washer pump. So it either has to be the washer request switch or the pump motor, or the wiring to the pump or the ground wire of the pump. The switch is easier to check:
Remove the tilt lever and then the upper and lower steering column covers (screws on the underside). The plug that carries the pump wire has 7 pins (6 wires) and the brown wire on pin 2 is the washer pump output wire. So test for 12V, when you try the washer switch with the ignition in the run position, to be on the brown wire. If not, then the switch internal contacts are bad and you might correct that with some electrical contact spray from an electronics supply. If you have 12v then you would need to get to the pump motor to verify the 12v gets there and the other side of the motor is grounded. That involves partial removal of the front left bumper facia. Write me about that task.
