Question
when we first start van you can hear a wining noise. sounds like from transmission. but after it gets warm it goes away. but it still shifts good.

Answer
Hi Greg,
I was wondering if you solved the noise problem, or if you still needed some help?
Use the 'thank/rate' tab below to get back to me if so. And while you are there if you would consider entering a 'yes' where you see the question about a "nomination of me for expert of the month" I would be most appreciative. Thanks in advance.

Hi Greg,
I would suggest, if you haven't already checked, that you open the hood to be sure it isn't coming from the front of the engine, from one of the accessory drive belts. That sound and timing is more typical of a loose drive belt. If it sounds like it is coming from the interface between the rear of the engine and the front of the transmission then that whine could be the sound from the torque converter which may need to be replaced in the future. If it comes from further back on the transmission then it is more likely an internal problem with the internals proper. But if it is shifting good then that is less likely.
So take a short length of rubber tubing and use it as an ear "horn" to focus on the source of the sound. Then let me know if you need further advice.
