Question
hello roland i just wanted to see from a expert if what i'm being told is true....my car wont start and i was told it's the fuel pump ...just wondering how big of a job it is???...thank you

Answer
Hi Becky,
May I ask on what basis you were told it is the fuel pump? When you first turn the key to the 'run' position do you hear it hum for a second or so and then stop? That is normal. No hum would be the case of no fuel pump operation, but even then it might be the 30 amp fuel pump fuse in the power distribution box under the hood by the battery, so check that. Finally, check for fault codes:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" using the ignition key and doing this in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light which remains 'on' to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to assure an accurate set of flash counts. Then write back with the results and we can go from there on whether it is the pump or not.
You have to remove the fuel tank from the vehicle to replace the pump. Not a major job but it does require some skill and a floor jack to lower it from the mounting. Then the pump is a simple twist lock to remove and replace, then reconnect the fuel lines and wires, and put tank back up in place. I don't have a time/job manual so can't tell you what is a good estimate for the cost. But lets verify first before going that route.
