Chrysler Repair: Heater blower not working:minivan, blower motor resistor, check fuse

Question
In our 2001 Town & Country Van the tempature lights light up and the back fan runs but the front controls the fan does not run. What would you check in this case?

Answer
Hi Mary,
Check fuse 12 under the dash on the driver side, and fuse 21 in the box under the hood by the battery as those are needed to provide power to the blower. Also in the under the hood box you will find the blower motor relay which should click (test by listening or touching) when a helper turns on the blower motor switch with the key in the "run" position. That relay is in the 5th position from the front of the box, but verify that by looking a the box label/chart. If all that checks out:
The chances are that the blower motor resistor block is burned out. That is the multiple resistor component that allows the variable fan speeds. It is about a $25 part and takes a few minutes to exchange out. It is found in the cabin, above and behind the glove box. You remove the screws around the glove box opening and drop the box out of the way. It has a 5-sided plug and is mounted on the firewall. Remove a couple of screws and it will come out for replacement.  When you put the new one in place check that the resistor coils aren't touching one another. Before doing all this with the resistor block, if you want to be sure it is not the blower motor itself that is burned out, look under the dash on the passenger side and notice the round assembly on the underside of the heater/ac housing at the far right end which is where the blower is located. You will see a two-wire lead coming from that area which is the connection to the blower(and itself goes to the resistor block). There is a plug which you can separate and then if you jump 12V to the plug side that goes to the motor area you can check that the motor is OK.
I think those are all the possibilities for why the front blower is not working. Let me know if I misunderstood you problem.
